Photos of Old Honolulu (Hawaii) 1900-1913



My friend who usually Noreen me pictures emails Old Hawaii sent me over the other day This brought back memories long forgotten, I do not know where the photos or captions came from, but they're valuable enough to me.
Aloha Motors at the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Atkinson Drive is now the site of the Center Conventon Hawaii.
Corner of Beretania and Richards streets where the Schuman building Transportation and the office of a doctor was in the 1950's and 1960's The entire block was demolished to build the State Capitol Building This photo was taken in the street near Washington Square.
Bishop Street, looking towards the Mauka Beretania Street in this street in 1959 eventually went to Vineyard Pali Hwy Bishop St became a Makai way related Across Beretania is now the Place du Capitole building.



The old Civic Auditorium to 1314 S King St to be demolished to make way for progress, in April 1974 was built in January 1933, it has hosted many functions over the years.
The last day of Coco Coffee House, August 31, 1986 After 26 years of activity at the corner of Kapiolani and Kalakaua, it makes way for a new business, the Hard Rock Cafe Coco Before s, the Kau Kau Korner was there.

I LOVE old photos Can you imagine the size of the device that was used to make those pictures Unfortunately I do not remember most of these places since I arrived in Hawaii in 1975.
The man might be the nyquil talk, but it really makes me sad to think that my children are going to see when they grow The skyline has changed sooo plenny in just 20-30 years, I can see the legend now Likelike Drive Inn on Keeaumoku street, people used to flock here for pancakes impressive bananas demolished in 2015, now the site Honolulu a trillionth Skyrise Condominium.



Many beautiful memories with really old pictures, football games Honolulu Stadium, Kapahulu Avenue goes to grandma s I left in 1962 then was gone when many of them were taken Thanks for sharing.

Love the old pictures I know I'm not old because I remember most of the places are still haven t got cs4 download, need to call again tomorrow remains, I am not in Gig Harbor, WA now Wyoming was great, but miss my family a lot Wyoming.
Wow These are great photos and captions were as good as I remember going to Aloha Motors with my parents when they bought two or three of their Oldsmobiles when I was a small child.

As I am now 60, I do not remember a lot of these places mom took me to Old Plantation before it is demolished It was open to the public for the last time that I do not remember if we could go to the building but the grounds were like being in a different world when Ah Waialae shopping Center, Western star in supermarket pictures after the Piggly Wiggly original and become stars supermarket Aloha Motors, my first new car to 77 All other Cocos, Kapiolani Drive Inn too How to tell the grocers in Kahala where men Macy is now.

Jaina, I was just surfing the web for old photos of Hawaii and found your website breath of the past, I also like really view photos oh I was in Hawaii conner Fort and King streets when Hawaii became 50th State I sold the Honolulu Advertiser and done the advice that day was my part of the paper the Honolulu coffee and the building is still there its part of HPU campus Downtown anyway, I saw a picture of this building that you had on this site Thanks for posting these great pictures Mahalo.

I was stationed at Barbers Point in 1963-1964 and lived in an apartment at the corner of Kalakaua and Ala Wai Canal We had a nice view of Diamond Head from the veranda I am currently a return visit for the first time my things have changed, I enjoyed your collection of old photos Top's was one of my favorite places.

Someone remembers a 1968 Oldsmobile convertible saffron yellow with a black side band on the wings before I try to find the original owner, from 1968 to 1970, and the 2nd owner, 1970 to July 2011, I think that it would have originally sold at Aloha Motors Thanks Shawn.
I lived in Pearl Harbor and Fort Shafter from 1960-1963 Anyone have pictures of the old base exchanges for both Tony.

This is an interesting collection of pictures, I do not remember most of these places Sometimes I wonder if the digital images of today have the staying power of those old bromides fortunately someone decided to keep .



These images are a treasure for our city, Honolulu to Statehood 1959 The following years brought many changes, but again the streets are always in the same places Thanks for sharing.

The picture just below Aloha Motors - Beretania corner and Richards - is actually the first building of the Central Union Church, which has a modern building around the corner ahead kitty corner in the street there was a gas station at St Andrew's Cathedral that didn t go away until they finished the cathedral, tearing on the cutting room against termites and replace it with the Great West window, which represented a termite in it.

Hello, Man I remember all those words, because I am from Honolulu, Hawaii I was born in August 25, 1939 I used to live on Hayden Street in Kapahulu I attended the school on Kapahulu intermediant and corner Alawai then I attended St. Abustin Intermediant school and Roosevelt High school and graduated in 1958. During this time, I was walking to Waikiki beach and surfing and paddle canoe and ride the boat I surf with Rabbit Kekai, Jama Kekai , Kahanamoku duck and worked all consulting firms surf at the beach when the waves are good and I to play hooky and go surfing and paddle canoe I paddled for Waikiki surf club and club surfing Ala Wai Then I moved to Southern California in Hermosa beach and surfed there in most of the beaches I used real-time with 2 friends on eight street and went to the second street, and met guy from us and they played the ukulele music, and I borrowed a form of surfboard and one of the guys made my first surfing on the beach Man the water was very cold, but I really did some great surfing and really enjoyed everything so the remaining years, I worked for many surfboard companies such as Happ Jacops Greg Knowl, Dewey Weber, and Lyman surfboard firm I sand surfboards for these companies for a few years and I was asked to have my own surfboard company, so I started my own surfboard company in Hermosa beach, much to the floor sanded and surfboards in the evening and in the morning I went to the beach to surf so I erase all iche things out of my body that was the good old days, and now I really want to go home from here in Las Vegas, Nevada I am 76 years old and I play a some online games and hope to earn some money, so I return home, I am a very religious brother as a Jehovah's Witness and witnessed for about 30 years and want to go home and live with my brother a couple of weeks and rent or buy a house and return to the beach to surf and canoe paddle so please see if you help me Aloha and Mahalo, Bradda Wendell Abbey Wood.

My cousin sent me a link island in 2008 these same pictures they were originally published by the Honolulu Advertiser after the Star-Bulletin was sold in early 2000 and can be accessed online for free Many are went back in the 1800s and in late 1900 I downloaded a lot from 1941 to 1986 for use in class meetings to Redford High School, class of 63, I'm a member, I no longer live in the islands, but miss my friends, family and the beauty of the islands OK, ono food too.
Thank you so much for sharing these photos, it was pleasant to say the least I want Hawaii has not changed, but we all need to evolve to some extent, I have not come to Hawaii until 1980 I remember Woolworths center ala moana shopping thats about as far as I am if I remember Coco would like to have seen the old Halekulani before they renovated I was in Hawaii in enough time to see it in all its glory, but never noted until it was renovated I really never went to Waikīkī at the time I remember the waikiki theater plays organ music and I was there when they imploded Kaiser near Ala Moana anyone beach park by chance know where I could get vintage photos of Queen St back in the day or around Kaka AKO.
