India vs China 2017 trucks
I have a request Would they be allowed to use the brand name as Foton Reason, Tata Internet service is called Tata Photon I know that the two are in different segments but just a thought.
It is unlikely that a person looking for a truck will end up buying an Internet package or vice versa, because of a similar sounding name, however, im not an expert on IP, so let this.
But staying with the same theme, the question that must be asked is how the competitive landscape between Foton CVID India shape in the context of their massive collaborative strategy in China Consider this - In 2010, the BAIC parents Beiqi Foton signed a joint venture with Daimler trucks me the new company JV, 50-50 think goal is to use world-class technology from Daimler, especially diesel engines, to build Foton Auman trucks see attached pic According the letter of intent signed total investment is about 886 million.
Slightly off topic - Daimler and BAIC also have a passenger car joint venture that produces Mercedes-Benz cars.
Coming back to the Indian CV stage, it is difficult to imagine Foton compete with CVID using engines with CVID in the HD segment Perhaps Cummins India figures in the powertrain photons strategy for India - which will be up so head to head with TML on the Prima range of trucks HD from an engine point of view.
Of all the actors of the Chinese market, I guess it had to be Foton exploit the Indian market FOTON We bought a 15-Seater Van See our personal transportation 2 years Dubai These are days when the market was flooded by Chinese automakers They were flashy and watched a purpose the type of sale that sold us the van told us that the old version of the Toyota Hiace that this van was modeled and the engine is the proven road While we seen similar vans Hyundai H-1, Nissan Urvan and Toyota Hiace, at least the most expensive, we had a resource optimization atleast on paper to the FOTON Van was considered While the Hyundai H-1 cost us AED81,500 for the base model, the fully loaded version of FOTON van cost us AED55,600 only there was even ABS, rear sensors and batch But all that didn t last too long, I must add we regret the purchase decision and would have been better with one of the other three contenders But that's how it was happe n But I heard the photons are different today, although I do not want to hear about it for a long time now.
And besides, the same people who are the dealers for Maruti Suzuki and Mercedes-Benz in Chennai CARS are importers and distributors for FOTON here in the United Arab Emirates Would not be surprised if they take the franchise in Chennai at some point in the future I hope this information has helped to shed some light on this FOTON brand.
NOTE Our van is gray, the attached photos are for reference only.
The following 3 BHPians Thanks Champion for this useful post.

This situation can occur While both names are pronounced the same, they are spelled differently and Tata Photon Foton operate in different segments too.
In the past Honda dragged TVS Motors for the use of the term but City Court dismissed the case and ruled in favor of TVS Motors.
I think we underestimate the Chinese goods too quickly.
FOTON is a manufacturer that produces nearly 600 thousand vehicles per year more than the production of full CV in India I really do not think they could get those numbers with sub-standard quality to ensure that there was lemons, but I'm pretty sure that the figures would be negligible.
For many products, the Chinese quality is well above the Indian standards.
My personal opinion is that if Foton decide to take strong position in India, then things become really interesting TML, AL VECV has not seen an even higher volume competitor in the CV segment uptill now, new players such as Volvo, MAN Scania etc. all play in niche segments.
I do not doubt the quality of vehicles, what I am saying is the image is wrong to start, especially being a Chinese product they could make exceptional vehicles, but for the majority of the market in search of a long-term economic vehicle, it will be a G TML they will look.
Foton (Chinese) Trucks in India, Foton Chinese trucks, India.
